FORT MYERS, Fla. -
Courtney Cobb has been named an assistant coach for the FGCU women's golf program.
"I feel honored to be joining the FGCU family this fall," Cobb said. "I'd like to thank Coach Trew and the athletic department for giving me this great opportunity. The women's golf program has been very strong over the past few years, and I'm excited to be a part of it."
The Jacksonville native is coming off a successful collegiate career at North Florida, where she was a two-time Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar.
As a senior, Cobb participated in all 10 events in 2017-18 with a 76.21 average. She led the team in counting scores (27 of 29, 93.1 percent) and was named UNF's most improved female athlete.
As a junior, Cobb posted a season-low 72 in the Amelia Island College, which was also her career-low until she carded a 69 at the Pinehurst Challenge as a senior.
In 2015-16, Cobb was awarded a medical redshirt after suffering an injury in the fall season. Prior to that, she played two seasons at Daytona State College, where she was a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) national championship team as a freshman. She finished 12th individually at nationals.
"Courtney is going to be a phenomenal addition to our program," FGCU head coach
Sarah Trew said. "She is a proven winner with a JUCO national championship and an ASUN championship on her resume. The assistant is always a big key to any program, and we have a rock star with Courtney. She knows a good number of our team members so her transition should be seamless. We are all excited to have her join the Eagle family."
Prior to her collegiate career, Cobb prepped at Providence School, where she helped lead the Stallions to three district championships, a regional championship and a pair of regional runner-up finishes. She is the only player in program history to qualify for regionals every year of her prep career.
Cobb earned an undergraduate degree in sport management from North Florida in the spring of 2017 and is currently working on a master's in education leadership.
COACH TREW
Since taking over the program in 2011, Sarah Trew has guided the Eagles to 30 top-five finishes, including six in each of the past three seasons. On top of that, she led the program to a pair of second-place finishes in the ASUN Championship in 2016 and 2017, which signifies the best finishes in program history.
Over the past three years, the 2015-16 ASUN Coach of the Year has led the Green and Blue to its three best seasons in program history in stroke average, birdies, par-3 scoring, par-4 scoring and par-5 scoring. Her 2017-18 team tied the program record for low round with a 290 (+2) in the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational and also tied the record for best 36-hole total in the same event (589, +13). Her 2012-13 team holds the 54-hole record of 887 (+23) in the ASUN Championship, but her 2017-18 team holds the third-best mark with an 895 (+31) in the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational.
Trew was instrumental in FGCU's six top-five finishes in 2017-18. The highlight of the season came when the team captured first-place in the MSU Citrus Classic, signifying the program's first outright tournament championship since March 2008. She previously led the team to a share of first-place in the FGCU Eagle Invitational on Sept. 16, 2013.
The 2018 season also witnessed Natalia Nassar capture the ASUN Conference's Freshman of the Year award, which represented the program's first-ever major athletic award recipient. Also, for the first time since 2011, the team claimed three ASUN golfer of the week recipients - Kate Williamson (March 22), Madeline Marck-Sherk (March 15) and Nassar (Feb. 8) in the same season. It was also just the second time in program history the team won the award in back-to-back weeks. Overall, last year's trio represents one-third of the program's nine weekly recipients since Trew took over.
