FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU men's tennis team concludes non-conference play Sunday with a noon match against the #46 Princeton Tigers. The Eagles (5-8) look to build upon last week's victory as the Green and Blue aim for a fifth title in four seasons.
Â
Admission remains free for all home matches. Fans are encouraged to bring their own seating as bleacher seating is limited.
DEFENDING THE NEST
FGCU's success at home has been a vital aspect of the program's success under head coach
CJ Weber. Since the 2012-13 season, Weber's second in Southwest Florida, the Eagles are 41-20 at the FGCU Tennis Complex. During that stretch, the Green and Blue have posted winning records in all but one of those seasons, including a 7-1 record in 2014-15 and a 9-0 mark in 2015-16.
Â
This season, the Eagles are 5-2 at home. FGCU finishes with four of the final six matches at home.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Entering the weekend 14-7, Princeton checks in at #46 in the latest ITA rankings. The Tigers have posted winning records at every position except No. 1. Luke Gamble has posted a 16-11 record throughout the season including an 11-7 record in dual matches. Davey Roberts has tallied 17 wins this season, 11 in dual play.
In doubles, the pairing of Luke Gamble and Damian Rodriguez are 9-4 from the No. 1 spot while Payton Holden and Ryan Saggerman are 11-4 at No. 2.
This will be the first-ever meeting between FGCU and Princeton.
LAST TIME OUT
FGCU ended a mini two-game losing skid with a 4-3 win over Illinois State last Saturday. The Eagles claimed the doubles point for the third-straight match and claimed the victory when
Mateo Ruiz (Bucaramanga, Colombia/Oklahoma State) won in three sets at No. 5.

CJ WEBER
FGCU is led by
CJ Weber who has coached 26 ASUN All-Conference selections since joining the Green and Blue in 2011. In his sixth year, Weber has compiled a 78-64 (.549) overall record and a 29-15 (.694) record in ASUN play. In 2014-15, Weber guided the Eagles to their first-ever ASUN Championship and first-ever ASUN Regular Season title after a program-best 17 wins. In his third season, Weber led Jordi Vives to a No. 35 national ranking, a nation-leading 14-match unbeaten streak and the round of 32 in the 2014 NCAA Tournament - the program's first appearance. The Eagles completed consecutive perfect ASUN seasons in 2016 and back-to-back conference titles as well as a second-straight Coach of the Year honor for Weber. FGCU again won the ASUN Championship in 2017, advancing to its second NCAA Tournament.
