@FGCU_WSwim Concludes Events at Last Chance Meet

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – On the last day of the Last Chance Meet, Rebecca Moynihan and Madison Jean both wrapped up their respective events Sunday afternoon.

"It was a great day," said head coach Dave Rollins. "Rebecca swam two very strong 100 freestyles that builds her confidence moving forward as she gets used to racing a short course. Madison swam her fastest 100 back in three years which is also a great confidence booster going into her junior year. Overall a very successful weekend."

Moynihan (Palmerston North, New Zealand/Waiopehu College) in the 100 free turned in two NCAA 'B' times. In the prelims the freshman turned in a time of 49.98 seconds and followed it up in the finals touching out this time in 49.96 seconds. Meanwhile in the 100 back, the fastest time in three years for Jean (Parrish, Fla./Lakewood Ranch HS) came in at 57.62 seconds.

FGCU will now prepare for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships from Mar. 8-10 as a pair of freshmen in Melissa Novak and Megan Wakefield will represent the Eagles.
Wakefield (Guelph, Ontario, Canada/Centennial CVI) back on Jan. 20 set the new platform program mark with a score of 242.55, besting the score set forth by Cayla Collins in 2015 (196.40), qualifying her for zones.

Meanwhile, back on Nov. 4 in a dual against Florida, Novak (Frederick, Md./Oakdale HS) finished 1st in the 1-meter dive by over 40 points with a score of 290.55., just six points shy of the program record held by Mikaila Buening in 2016 en route to earning her qualification.

Earlier in the 2018 CCSA Championships, the freshman solidified her mark even more, topping the FGCU record book by scoring a mark of 316.30 in the 1-meter dive as well as a score of 334.50 in the 3-meter dive.
