@FGCU_MTen Set for Meeting with Hurricanes

FGCU and Miami are scheduled for a 3 p.m. meeting Saturday.

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Looking to bounce back from its second home loss of the season, FGCU men's tennis heads across Alligator Alley to face in-state rivals Miami Saturday at 3 p.m.

Live stats will be available via hurricanesports.com during the match.

LAST TIME OUT
The Eagles split a pair of home matches last weekend, a 4-3 victory over Charlotte and a 4-0 loss to Tennessee Tech. Mateo Ruiz (Bucaramanga, Colombia/Oklahoma State) clinched the win over the 49ers from the No. 5 spot. Felipe Ramirez (Armenia, Colombia/Florida Virtual School) and Javier Fernandez (Ibiza, Spain/IES CTEIB) also secured singles victories.

The following day was very uncharacteristic as the Eagles fell 4-0 to Tennessee Tech. FGCU led on the remaining three courts in a match that was not played to the end. The Golden Eagles clinched the doubles point with a win at No. 2 and won the match in a third set at No. 6. The loss Saturday brought FGCU to 3-3 on the year.

MIAMI CONNECTION
FGCU head coach CJ Weber spend five years as an assistant at Miami, helping the Hurricanes garner eight All-America honors. The Hurricanes were ranked as high as #27 and was named the 2011 ITA Southeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year.

SCOUTING THE HURRICANES
Entering the week No. 70 in the country, Piotr Lomacki headlines the Hurricanes (3-3) lineup with a 4-1 record during the dual season. Miami has found the bulk of its success at the top two positions, combining for a 7-2 mark through the first six matches. Christian Langmo has secured three wins at No. 2 while Jesse Flores is 2-1 at No. 3.

Lomacki and Max Andrews rose to No. 38 in the ITA doubles rankings, although the duo has yet to feature in a dual match. Niles Clark and Lomacki meanwhile are 4-0 in doubles play, featuring at No. 2.

FGCU upset Miami as part of its historic 2015 season to even up the all-time record at 1-1.

NEXT UP
FGCU returns home for a five-match homestand before conference play begins. The stretch begins with a Thursday (March 9) match opposite Xavier followed by a Friday (March 10) tussle with ETSU.

CJ WEBER
FGCU is led by CJ Weber who has coached 23 ASUN All-Conference selections since joining the Green and Blue in 2011. In his fifth year, Weber has compiled a 66-47 (.600) overall record and a 26-11 (.694) record in ASUN play. In 2014-15, Weber guided the Eagles to their first-ever Atlantic Sun Championship and first-ever Atlantic Sun Regular Season title after a program-best 17 wins. In his third season, Weber led Jordi Vives to a No. 35 national ranking, a nation-leading 14-match unbeaten streak and the round of 32 in the 2014 NCAA Tournament - the program's first appearance. The Eagles completed consecutive perfect ASUN seasons in 2016 and back-to-back conference titles as well as a second-straight Coach of the Year honor for Weber.
