ORLANDO, Fla.- The Florida Gulf Coast Eagles begin their 2026 fall tennis season on the road in Orlando this weekend as they take part in the Bedford Cup, featuring top teams from around the region.
Â
Action will get going Friday morning at the USTA National Campus with both singles and doubles brackets taking place. The tournament will run through Sunday with the conclusion of both the championship brackets and back draws. Last season FGCU's
Jonathan Baron and
Tanner Povey teamed up to make a run to the doubles championship match at the event while
Hugo Magnusson led the Eagles singles players, advancing to the semifinals of the tournament.
Â
The Eagles have high expectations for the 2026-2027 season as they bring back eight key contributors to the mix including four of their top six singles players and their top two doubles pairs from a year ago.
Stefan Correa returns after tying for the team lead with 12 wins in singles action while
Tanner Povey,
Hugo Magnusson, and Mike Bunjes are also back after posting nine or more wins in singles play in 2025-26. On the doubles side,
Gustav Hasslegren led FGCU with 12 wins a season ago, closely followed by
Jonathan Baron who earned 10 victories, both of which are back and ready to go for the Blue and Green this fall.
Â
All 10 Eagles will participate in both singles and doubles at the event. The Eagles doubles pairs will be Magnusson and Povey, Baron and Bunjes,
Brennon Chow and
Harry Michalowski, Correa and
Gabriel Valdes, and Hasslegren and
CJ Smith.
