Eagles make fall home debut at Pelican Bay Invitational

Eagles play first of two home dates to close out fall season

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Eagle fans will get the first chance to see their Florida Gulf Coast men's tennis team at home in Southwest Florida this weekend as they participate in the Pelican Bay Collegiate Invitational in Naples Friday and Saturday.

The Eagles will take part of the Pelican Bay Invitational this weekend against the likes of Barry University and the University of North Carolina Greensboro. Action will begin both Friday and Saturday at 1 p.m. on the north courts at Pelican Bay.

FGCU will send eight singles players and four doubles pairs into the draw. Stefan Correa has led the way for the Eagles this fall, going 6-1 in singles action including capturing a title in the Bedford Cup on opening weekend. The Eagles have faced a difficult slate so far in the fall with Correa and Hugo Magnusson picking up singles wins over players from Florida and Gabriel Valdes earning a singles win over UCF. Five different Eagle combos have earned doubles victories where again, they have tangled with some of the best the NCAA has to offer. Jonathan Baron and Mike Bunjes picked up an opening weekend win over Florida State, Correa and Magnusson knocked off Georgia at the ITA Regionals, and Baron and Tanner Povey grinded out an 8-7 win over Georgia Tech on the Yellow Jackets' home courts.

For Barry, it will be the final competition of the fall. The seven-time NCAA Division II National Champion Buccaneers came up just short of making it eight last season, falling to Flagler in the Championship Match 4-3.

UNC Greensboro will also be wrapping up their fall slate at the event.  The Spartans were 7-15 last spring, going 2-5 in SoCon action.

Fans are welcome to attend, or can follow along with the action HERE.
