"I think we played solid overall today," said head coach

Blonien (Altus, Okla./Altus HS/Oklahoma State) posted rounds of 72 and 69 for a team-best 141 after the first day of action. The team's lone senior is tied for fifth place in the field and will enter day two just three shots out of the lead held by Fatima Cano of Troy, Emma Allen of Missouri and Loy Hee Ying of ETSU, who are tied at 138. Her second round of the day included five birdies on the front en route to her three-under par score.

"I'm so proud of Megan and Kate for their play today, and I'm really excited to get back out there tomorrow and see what we can do" Trew said.

This year, The Johnie will be raising money for pediatric cancer in honor of Rhyan Roos, daughter Missouri assistant men's basketball coach Brad Loos who has been diagnosed with cancer. Each of the 15 teams competing at the tournament will be paired with a child who has been affected by this horrible disease and will be raising money to support their recovery.
FGCU is paired with 10-year-old Braden Hofen from Olathe, Kansas. Braden was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in 2007 and secondary MDS several years later. Neuroblastoma is an extremely rare childhood cancer that affects one in 10 million children. Braden has been fighting for six years now, and has beaten the disease twice despite 10% odds of survival. Some of Braden's favorite hobbies include basketball, bowling and playing with Legos. His favorite movies are Despicable Me and Toy Story. He loves to read and wants to be a basketball player or heart surgeon when he grows up.

HEAD COACH SARAH TREW
Head coach
Sarah Trew recently is currently in her 6th season at the helm of the FGCU women's golf team after being named Atlantic Sun Coach of the Year in 2016. Trew took over in 2011 and has since guided the Eagles to the program's best-ever finish in the ASUN Tournament and to 20+ top-10 finishes. A year ago, Trew led the team to several records on and off the course. The 2013-14 squad set a new single-season scoring record with a team average of 307.88, while also setting a new benchmark academically. The spring of 2015 saw the Eagles again take third place at the A-Sun Championship, and recording their best team score of the season while 2016 again set a new standard. The 2015-16 squad recorded a new program best with a 305.29 average and took a second-place finish at the conference tournament. In that event, the Eagles carded a team score of 290 to set the program's new record and earned the top finish in program history.
