SARASOTA, Fla. – The FGCU women's golf team carded a 303 Monday, Oct. 24 at the Pat Bradley Invitational hosted by FIU. The Eagles slipped one spot in the standings and are currently tied for 10th place in the 14-team field after two rounds.
FGCU shot a 304 in round one of the 54-hole event, combining for a team score of 607 after two days of play. The Eagles are currently tied with Morehead State and sitting just five shots behind fellow ASUN competitor Jacksonville, who is locked in a three-way tie for seventh place.
FIU is currently tied with Western Kentucky for first place in the tournament with a plus-seven score of 583 after round two, while Southern Miss and Toledo are tied in third with 586.
"
Kate (Williamson) played better today, and
Megan (Blonien) was really solid again," said head coach
Sarah Trew. "Tomorrow our goal is to play more aggressive and keep our foot on the gas in order to make more birdies. Everyone on the team has had some good rounds this fall and I'm confident that if each golfer sticks to their game plan we can have a really strong finish tomorrow."
Senior Blonien (Altus, Okla./Altus HS/Oklahoma State) led the Eagles again on Monday with a team-best 74 and added a pair of birdies on holes 16 and 18. Her plus-two total score of 146 puts her at 14th in the competition.
Madison Easterbrook (Burlington, Ontario/Aldershot HS) started the morning off strong with birdies on holes one and five, but as the day went on, the junior struggled on the back nine and recorded a score of 80. Easterbrook remains in the top half of the field thanks to a successful first round of 73 yesterday.
Sophomore
Madeline Marck-Sherk (Ridgeway, Ontario/Ridgeway Crystal Beach HS) cut down her strokes in her second round, carding plus-four score of 76 after recording a 79 on Sunday. She totals 155 after 36 holes.
After shooting a first round of 83 yesterday, rookie Williamson (Deerfield Beach, Fla./Archbishop McCarthy HS) improved by eight strokes for a score of 75 in round two. Williamson's second round allowed her to jump 14 spots in the competition to 63rd, which ties her with fellow newcomer
Ailsa Clark (Navarre, Fla./Navarre HS) who shot a 78 in today's round.
Sophomore
Jean Tyrrell (Leawood, Kan./Blue Valley North HS), who is competing as an individual in the tournament, also shot 78 in round two of the competition. Her combined score of 159 has her trailing the FGCU rookies by one stroke.
The final round of the Pat Bradley Invitational kicks off on Tuesday, Oct. 25 with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The Eagles will look to improve their position tomorrow to end their fall docket on a high note.

The 2013-14 squad set a new single-season scoring record with a team average of 307.88, while also setting a new benchmark academically. The spring of 2015 saw the Eagles again take third place at the A-Sun Championship, and recording their best team score of the season while 2016 again set a new standard. The 2015-16 squad recorded a new program best with a 305.29 average and took a second-place finish at the conference tournament. In that event, the Eagles carded a team score of 290 to set the program's new record and earned the top finish in program history.
