#19 @FGCU_WSwim Hosts CCSA-Foe UNF in Season’s First Dual Meet

FORT MYERS, Fla. – With a couple of invitational meets under its belt, the #19 FGCU swimming & diving team get its dual season started by hosting CCSA-opponent and in-state rival UNF at the FGCU Aquatics Center Friday, Oct. 14 at 4 p.m.

The Eagles are a perfect 8-0 all-time against UNF and most recently defeated the Ospreys, 180-91, a season ago before outscoring them by 1,200 points at the CCSA Championships. Additionally, FGCU is 32-1 against conference opponents in the nine-year history of the program.

Live results for Friday's meet will be available by downloading the Meet Mobile app and searching 'FGCU vs. UNF', and a complete schedule of events for the dual meet is included below.

"The girls have a lot of motivation after some good swims last weekend, and everyone is excited to keep the season going," said FGCU head coach Dave Rollins. "Staying focused on their details is going to be important moving forward. It's my first dual meet at FGCU, and you always want to walk away with a win. That's the goal, and we'll see what we can do to get the girls ready to compete again."

Through two meets this season, FGCU has finished third at the All Florida Invitational followed by a fourth-place finish at the FGCU Classic, which featured Power Five opponents from the SEC, ACC, Big Ten and Pac-12. All six women's teams that competed in the classic also participated in the 2016 NCAA Championships with three - Ohio State, Virginia Tech and LSU – finishing in the top-27.

FGCU has received national recognition for their efforts in the pool this season as the team is currently ranked #19 overall in CollegeSwimming.com's latest poll and has been tabbed as the #2 Mid-Major program in the country behind Boise State.

Individually, three student-athletes have taken home CCSA Swimmer and Diver of the Week honors. Christina Kaas Elmgreen (Charlottenlund, Denmark/Ordrup Gymnasium) and Ashley Wright (Port St. Lucie, Fla./Indian River CC/Lincoln Park Academy) swept the awards following their performance at the All Florida Invitational, while Katie Latham (Deal, Kent, UK/Sir Roger Manwood's School) earned the recognition after last weekend's FGCU Classic.

Already this season, Fanny Teijonsalo (Espoo, Finland/Makelanrinteen Lukio) has set a school record in the 100 IM with a time of 56.78 seconds, while Kaas Elmgreen clocked an NCAA 'B' cut in the 200 fly as she touched the pads in 1:59.22, which currently registers as the fourth-best time in the NCAA this season. Additionally, the Eagles' 200 free and 400 free relays hold the third- and fourth-fastest performances in the country with times of 1:32.17 and 3:23.28, respectively.
