@FGCU_WSwim Continues Home Stretch with Nebraska

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU women's swimming and diving (8-1, 3-0 CCSA) team will hit the pool in search of another victory against an opponent from a major conference when Nebraska visits the FGCU Aquatics Complex on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. The Eagles are at home for a second consecutive weekend to start the New Year and will be in search of ninth-straight dual meet victory to start to the season.

NEBRASKA
The Huskers will look to improve on their 4-3 dual-meet record as they return to the pool for the first time in 2015. Saturday's meet will mark the first time the two programs have competed against each other in a dual.

The Nebraska swimming and diving team earned victories in 12 of 13 events on its way to a 159-79 victory over Northern Iowa its last time out at the Devaney Natatorium. Nebraska was led by Cassie Brassard, Taryn Collura, Jordan Ehly and Anna Filipcic each capturing two victories a piece against the Panthers.

LAST TIME OUT
FGCU dove in and rolled to three victories last Saturday, one of which was a convincing 217-77 result over defending CCSA Conference champion Liberty. Eagles would win 14 of 16 events led by All-Americans Kira Toussaint and Emma Svensson who each took home four victories (two individually, two relays).

CONFERENCE HONOR QUEENS
When the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association announced its women's swimming and diving weekly awards on Wednesday morning, it was an FGCU sweep with freshman Yee Wong taking home Swimmer of the Week honors while senior Cayla Collins was selected as the Diver of the Week after their stellar performances over the weekend.

Wong (Hong Kong, China/Dlocesan Girls' School) earns the first Swimmer of the Week distinction of her young career while Collins (Largo, Fla./Osceola High School) picks up her third Diver of the Week award this season and fifth of her distinguished career.

Wong swam the third leg of the 200 yard medley relay for the FGCU team that placed third in the event posting a split time of 25.42 in the Eagles' quad meet versus Liberty, Campbell and Central Connecticut State. She then took home a victory in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:01.89, which also set an FGCU Aquatics Complex pool record. The freshman won again in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.16, then took second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:06.66.

Collins took home victories in the one and three meter diving competitions for the Eagles with scores of 232.87 and 250.42, respectively.

The Eagles have earned eight CCSA weekly honors this season. FGCU swept the first wave of CCSA weekly honors on Oct. 7 with Emma Svensson (Uppsala, Sweden/Celsiusskolan) named Swimmer of the Week and Collins Diver of the Week following their success at the season-opening All Florida Invite. Svensson continued on to earn another Swimmer of the Week title on Oct. 21 after three first-place touches in FGCU's 175-120 defeat of Incarnate Word. She would pick up a third a few weeks ago. Collins is part of a third FGCU sweep this season.

GEORGIA TECH INVITE
The FGCU swimming and diving team closed out the Georgia Tech Invitational last month in fourth-place with 573.5 points. The final day of the event for FGCU was highlighted by a program and CCSA record time in the 400 yard Freestyle Relay.

No. 11 Florida won the women's meet by a wide margin with 1359 points. Arkansas finished second with 861.5 points followed by Florida State (686) and FGCU (573.5). Vanderbilt (449), Georgia Tech (371), FAU (353.5), Miami (348), Bowling Green (286) and Colorado State (251.5) round out the top 10 with Indian River (213), South Carolina (151), Campbell (120), Auburn (93), Clemson (63), Utah (37) and Tulane (10) placing 11-17.

The honor for Svensson is the 12th of her career and comes after helping lead FGCU to a fourth-place finish at the competitive Georgia Tech Invite as the Eagles finished behind only Florida, Arkansas and Florida State in the 16-team field.
