@FGCU_WSWIM Hosts Florida State on Senior Day

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU women's swimming and diving team (9-2, 3-0 CCSA) welcomes in-state rival Florida State to the FGCU Aquatics Complex Jan. 30-31. The meet begins at 4 p.m. on Jan. 30 and at 10 a.m. on Jan. 31.  The Eagles will face Florida State for the eighth total time this weekend, and seek their first ever dual-meet win against the Seminoles.

SENIOR DAY
The Green and Blue will say goodbye to ten seniors as they swim for their final time at the FGCU Aquatics Complex on Saturday morning. The group will be recognized prior to the start of competition. This unit has been responsible for leading the team to two CCSA titles and are in search of a third in the last four years.

The seniors being recognized are: Cayla Collins (Largo, Fla./Indian River/Cardinal Gibbons HS), Maggie Holling (West Palm Beach Fla./John I Leonard), Taylor Malewicki (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny), Cassie Niles (Helotes, Texas/Sandra Day O'Connor), Devon Robins (London, United Kingdom/The Grey Coat Hospital), Natalie Rochette (Naples, Fla./Community School of Naples), Nina Schiffer (Dortmund, Germany/SG Dortmund), Blaine Small (Glenrothes, Fife, United Kingdom/Kelly College), Emma Svensson (Uppsala, Sweden/Celsiuskolan), and Karen Vilorio (Tegucigalpa, Honduras/Elvel School).

Florida State looks to win their second dual-meet of the season as they are 1-4 on the year. Last time out the Seminoles only won four events on the day, and fell to the Gators of Florida by a score of 185-115.

LAST TIME OUT
The FGCU women's swimming and diving team saw its win-streak come to a close on Saturday afternoon when it was beaten by the Panthers of Florida International University by a final score of 167-133 despite three victories from Emma Svensson.

CONFERENCE HONOR QUEENS
The Eagles have earned ten CCSA weekly honors this season. FGCU swept the first wave of CCSA weekly honors on Oct. 7 with Svensson named Swimmer of the Week and Collins Diver of the Week following their success at the season-opening All Florida Invite. Svensson continued on to earn another Swimmer of the Week title on Oct. 21 after three first-place touches in FGCU's 175-120 defeat of Incarnate Word. She would pick up a third a few weeks ago.

In addition to those finishes, Svensson helped FGCU to third-place finishes in both the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:30.89) and 200-yard medley relay (1:39.26) with splits of 21.73 and 23.15, respectively. Svensson also helped the 800-yard freestyle relay team touch in 7:26.56 for fourth place and the 400-yard medley relay team also finished in fourth place with a time of 3:39.06.

UP NEXT
FGCU will travel to Athens, Ga. to compete in the CCSA Championship. The Championship is a four day event that begins Feb. 18 and ends on Feb. 21.

FGCU is led by Neal Studd, who has garnered four CCSA Coach of the Year awards, won five CCSA Championships (2009-13) and guided the Eagles to a 25-1 CCSA all-time record since FGCU started its program in 2007. In just three years of postseason eligibility, Studd has coached NCAA Championship Meet qualifiers and competitors each of the three years, with 2014 yielding the best results to date as the Eagles claimed 32nd place and produced two CSCAA All-America honorees.
