FULL RESULTS

FORT MYERS, Fla.
– The FGCU women's & diving team (5-1, 1-0 CCSA) rode 18 top-three finishes on Friday to a pair of victories at home over Georgia Tech and Florida Atlantic  by scores of 183-54 and 160-83, respectively. The Eagles went 3-0 this week at their home pool and did so by a combined score of 500-229.

"Today the girls raced really tough," head coach Neal Studd said. "We've been doing a lot of running and lifting and swimming and they're pretty sore. I think all three teams probably are but we saw some great racing. The girls stepped up we were maybe a little bit better than I thought we would be because we're a little beat up. I'm excited about their effort and that kind of team spirit. It was a pretty good day."

The 200 yard Medly Relay led off the morning and it was the team of Kira Toussaint (Amstelveen, Netherlands/Keizer Karel College), Evita Leter (Paramaribo, Suriname/Doral Academy), Emma Svensson (Uppsala, Sweden/Celsiusskolan) and Becky Derogatis (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Indian River/Cardinal Gibbons HS) leading the way with a final time of 1:43.55. The FGCU team of Karen Vilorio (Tegucigalpa, Honduras/Elvel School), Katie Armitage (Bushey, United Kingdom/Queens School Bushey), Yee Ching Wong (Hong Kong, China/Dlocesan Girls' School) and Maggie Holling (West Palm Beach, Fla./John I Leonard) finished second with a time of 1:47.26.

The Eagles placed two swimmers in the top three by the end of the 1000 yard Freestyle. Lani Cabrera (Barbados/St. Ursala's Secondary School) and Nina Schiffer (Dortmund, Germany/SG Dortmund) finished one-two with times of 10:15.92 and 10:20.13, respectively. Cabrera continued to show her long-distance dominance later on with a third place finish in the 500 yard Free (5:05.23).

Armitage posted the lone FGCU top-three finish in the 200 yard Free with a second place touch time of 1:52.48. In the following race, the 50 Free, it would be Svensson and Derogatis pacing the crowd and finished first and second with times of 23.39 and 24.42, respectively.

Wong picked up a victory in the 200 yard IM touching in at 2:08.10 with Vilorio following closely behind in third with a time of 2:10.89. In Wong's next race she would pick up a second place finish in the 100 yard Butterfly while Vilorio waited for the 100 yard Backstroke to pick up another top three, finishing just behind Toussaint who touched in at 56.87.

Svensson found victory once again in the 100 yard Free with a time of 50.94 beating out her teammate Ellen Vann (Battle Creek, Mich./Lakeview HS) who finished third (54.33). In the 100 yard Breastroke, Armitage won for the first time on Friday afternoon with a time of 1:05.94 with her teammate Leter placing third.

In the final women's event of the day it was the relay team of Derogatis, Sara Hamilton (Stonehaven, Scotland/Mackie Academy), Kristin Julien (San Fernand, Trinidad & Tobago/St. Stephen's College) and Toussaint shining with a first place finish and a final touch time of 1:36.75.

CONFERENCE HONOR QUEENS
The Eagles have earned six CCSA weekly honors, with the most recent being Emma Svensson's third recognition of the season. FGCU swept the first wave of CCSA weekly honors on Oct. 7 with Svensson named Swimmer of the Week and Collins Diver of the Week following their success at the season-opening All Florida Invite. Svensson continued on to earn another Swimmer of the Week title on Oct. 21 after three first-place touches in FGCU's 175-120 defeat of Incarnate Word.

2014 FINA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
FGCU junior Lani Cabrera swam at the 2014 FINA World Swimming Championships last week and put forth a record breaking performance. Cabrera posted a time of 2:04.10 in the 200-meter Freestyle which broke her own Barbados national record of 2:06.34 which was set at the 2012 World Championships in Istanbul.

Cabrera would reach the finals in each of her two events with her top performance coming in the 200 Free. She was unable to compete in the 800-meter Free due to illness. With the 2014 calendar year coming to a close she now ranks 394th in the Swimming/World FINA top 500 in the 800 LCM Free and is the only Barbadian swimmer ranked in the top 500 in any event.

Cabrera entered the championships coming off of a stellar weekend at the Georgia Tech Invite where she placed ninth in the 1650 Free with a time of 16:51.83 and 16th overall in the 200 yard Free with a time of 1:50.28. She will be competing in the 200 Free, 400 Free, and 800 Free at the World Championships Short Course.
