Tindell’s OT Winner Lifts #FGCU to Perfect #ASunWSoc Season

FORT MYERS, Fla. –  The FGCU women's soccer team (15-3, 7-0 Atlantic Sun) became the first A-Sun program since 2000 to complete and undefeated and untied regular season against conference opponents on Saturday night and did so in front of a program record 1108 fans, defeating Stetson (5-12-1, 2-5 A-Sun), 1-0 in overtime thanks to yet another Tabby Tindell game-winner.

The Eagles battled a stingy Stetson for 90 minutes but that wouldn't be enough and took a 22-1 shot advantage into overtime where in the 100th minute, Julia Roddar fed Shannen Wacker who used one-touch to find Tindell open in the box for the one-touch shot that found its way to the far-side corner of the net for the game-clinching tally.

"That was like a playoff game," head coach Jim Blankenship said. "At the end of the season those are the kind of games that you are going to see, where one mistake can change the whole night. We didn't start off great but what I liked was that our kids constantly went after the result. We had a lot of chances and we have a lot of respect for what Manoj (Khettry) and what he has done for his program what they've been able to. They withstood a lot of pressure and their keeper made some good saves. It was a phenomenal crowd on senior night – It is amazing what this group of seniors has done during their career here. It was exciting, a great way to end the regular season."

The magical, record-shattering season continues for the Green and Blue who have now won a program record 15 games. Since dropping a 2-0 result to No. 16 South Carolina on Sept. 14 on a neutral field, the Eagles have won a program record 11-consecutive matches, outscoring their opponents 30-4 with seven shutouts, including a 15-2 advantage against A-Sun competition. FGCU went 6-2 on the road during the regular season, a perfect 9-0 at home and extended its unbeaten streak against conference opponents at home to 26 games which is tied for the third longest such streak in the nation.

FGCU outshot Stetson 9-0 in the first half, never allowing the Hatters to mount any kind of offense and instead held possession for the majority of the half in the attacking third of the field. Brittany Brown (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena HS) did not need to make a single-save to secure her ninth shutout of the season which matches a personal best and is three shy of matching the single-season program record of 12. Brown has guided the Eagles to a 5-0-1 record in the A-Sun Tournament during her tenure as the starter and has not allowed a goal in the last 498:12 minutes of A-Sun Tournament play.

The Eagles began to break through the stout Stetson defense late in the second half and produced several golden opportunities that fell short. Kaitlin Parker found herself one-on-one with the goalkeeper in the 73rd minute but Eduarda Pavao was able to make one of her eight saves of the evening. Tindell found herself with a similar opportunity in the 79th minute but produced the save result. Paulina Speckmaier lined up a set-piece from just outside the top of the box in the 88th minute but would send it soaring over the goal.

In the overtime period, Stetson was never able to gain any solid possession and the Eagles applied heavy pressure from the kick off. Both Tindell and Ally Kasun were able to generate clean chances but neither would find their mark. The perfect sequence started by Tindell with a pass Roddar in the 100th minute led to Wacker's single-season record breaking 13th assist on Tindell's goal to end the game.

FGCU returns home on Nov. 7 to square off with the winner of the #4-seed North Florida and #5-seed Northern Kentucky matchup that will be played on Nov. 1 at UNF. Game times are yet to be determined.

SENIOR NIGHT
Prior to the match the Eagles celebrated the careers of six seniors, Wacker, Roddar, Melissa Arnold, Kaila Browe, Danielle LeRoy and Brooke Sill. The four-year senior class of Wacker, Arnold and Browe is the winningest in program history, posting a record of 55-15-9 with a 27-2-4 mark in A-Sun play.

RECEIVING VOTES – Top Drawer Soccer
FGCU is receiving votes in the TopDrawerSoccer.com College Soccer National Ranking Women's D1 Top 25 poll this week, falling in at No. 27. This marks the second consecutive week FGCU has been included in the poll and it comes in the wake of the Eagles defeating Jacksonville on Saturday night to secure a record fifth-consecutive A-Sun Regular Season Championship.

The Eagles fall in behind only Michigan (11-4-1. 7-2-1 B1G) among those who are receiving votes while California (10-4-1, 2-3-1 Pac-12), Georgia (10-3-1, 5-2-1 SEC), Arizona St. (9-2-4, 2-1-3 Pac-12), Georgetown (10-3-3, 4-1-1 Big East), South Carolina (11-4-1, 4-3-1 SEC) and Washington (10-4, 3-2 Pac-12) rank No. 20-25, respectively. Texas A&M (13-2-1, 7-1 SEC), who FGCU battled on the road earlier this season before falling 2-1, settles in at No. 6 in the poll. The Women's Top 25 poll in its entirety can be found here.

RECEIVING VOTES - NSCAA
The Eagles received three votes in National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll on Tuesday afternoon, falling into the No. 35 spot. It is the first time this season that the Green and Blue have been considered in this poll. FGCU sits behind Michigan (28 votes), California (28), Colgate (22), Georgetown (13), Santa Clara (13), Missouri (12), Kentucky (7), Oklahoma (4) and Oklahoma State (4) among those also receiving votes. La Salle (1), North Texas (1) and Iowa (1) rank below FGCU and everyone is chasing No. 25 Arizona State who received 55 votes this week. The entire NSCAA Top 25 poll can be found here.

HIGHEST RPI
The NCAA Women's Soccer RPI was released on Monday as well and the Eagles fall in at No. 41 which is by far the best in the A-Sun and a program best this late in the season. The Green and Blue finished at No. 67 last season but have already matched their 2013 win total and will have a chance to best the program record of 14 wins prior to the end of the regular season.

Before the season began, FGCU had seven teams on the 2014 slate that finished ranked inside the top 83 in the RPI, three of which were ranked 15th or better. Those seven teams included Arizona (83), Miami (73), La Salle (63), USF (53), Texas A&M (15), South Carolina (14) and UCF (13). Texas A&M currently sits at No. 5 in the latest RPI rankings and South Carolina falls in at No. 10 while inclement weather and lightning prevented FGCU from playing No. 24 UCF to begin the season. The Eagles claimed crucial victories over La Salle and Arizona who now rank at 21 and 27, respectively.

JIM BLANKENSHIP
A veteran of over two decades in collegiate coaching, head coach Jim Blankenship, who was named the 2012 and 2013 A-Sun Coach of the Year, has built FGCU women's soccer into a yearly contender in the Atlantic Sun Conference and a rising program in the South Region in just eight seasons. Blankenship started the program in 2007 and has since guided the Eagles to eight double-digit win seasons, culminating with Atlantic Sun Regular Season Championships in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. In 2011 and 2012 he also led the Eagles to back-to-back A-Sun tournament championships and became the first team in the history of the university to make it to the NCAA Tournament. Blankenship has guided FGCU to a 99-35-17 overall record over the first eight seasons of the program's existence, including a 54-9-9 mark in the A-Sun.

ATLANTIC SUN CHAMPIONSHIP
For the fourth-consecutive season the FGCU women's soccer team will host the Atlantic Sun Championship Tournament at the FGCU Soccer Complex (Nov. 7-9). The quarterfinal matches between the 3-6 seeds will take place at home sites with the semifinals and final taking place at FGCU. The Eagles clinched a fifth-consecutive A-Sun Regular Season Championship on Oct. 18 and have never lost a match in the A-Sun tournament, advancing to two NCAA Tournaments.
