Biography

As a Sophomore (2020-21)
Earned bronze in the 1650y free at the CSA Championships with a personal-best time of 17:02.23...  Also scored points at the CCSAs with a a fifth-place finish in the 500y free and 16th-place finish in the 400y IM...  Won the 1650y free against North Florida (Jan. 30)...  Won the 1000y free against FIU (Jan. 23)...  Won both the 500y free and 1000y free against UNF (Jan. 16)... Competed in four events at the Eagle Invitational which included fourth-place finishes in the 500y free and 1650y free.

As a Freshman (2019-20)
Scored points in each of the three individual events that she competed in at the 2020 CCSA Conference Championships … Swam a season-best 17:08.33 en route to earning a seventh-place finish in the mile … Finished 11th in the 500-yard freestyle after swimming a season-best 5:01.09 … Placed 19th overall in the 400-yard IM (4:35.67) … Had one of her best meets of the season during the competition against Houston (Nov. 1), where she swam personal bests in both the 400-yard IM (4:35.44) and the 200-yard IM (2:13.37).

Attended Bishop Verot High School, where she swam under Jason Baumgardner … Swam club for Swim Florida under coach Mac Kennedy Was a member of the National Honors Society, the Principal’s List, and was nominated for an award in History at graduation … Was an AP and Honors student throughout high school … Received the St. Sebastian Award for Excellence in Athletics … Earned the Rotary Scholar-Athlete Award … Was named to the Florida Open Water Swimming Zone Team and the Florida Swimming All-Star Team.

Born October 18 … Daughter of Kimberly and John VanDress … Has one sibling, Madison … Favorite sport moment was watching the 2008 Beijing Olympics when the U.S. men’s 4 x 100 freestyle relay team beat France in the last five meters for a gold medal … Favorite athlete is Elizabeth Beisel … Favorite sports movie is “Miracle” … Favorite book is “Never Let Me Go” … Would most like to meet Andrew Luck because of his sportsmanship in the NFL and his competitive spirit … Her biggest accomplishment so far was when she was recognized as a nominee for the St. Francis de Sales Medal of Honor, the highest honor given at her high school’s graduation ceremony … Considered attending JMU, Miami of Ohio, the Coast Guard Academy, Lafayette University, Nebraska and Johns Hopkins … Chose FGCU because of the great team atmosphere and coaching staf f… Wants to pursue a nursing degree and a career in athletic training ... Majoring in nursing.
