Evan Dempsey headlines three ABCA/Rawlings All-Region honorees from FGCU

The three honors ties the most in a single year in program history

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Florida Gulf Coast had three players recognized on the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-Southeast Region teams this week. Eagles' pitcher Evan Dempsey claimed first team honors to highlight the awards.

Also recognized by the ABCA/Rawlings on the second team were catcher Jon Embury and third baseman Javier Gorostola.

This week's announcement now gives FGCU 22 total ABCA All-Region honors since the program's inaugural season in 2003. It also ties the program record for most honors received in a single year, matching the three all-region honors earned in 2022.

The Atlantic Sun Conference's Pitcher of the Year, Dempsey turned in another spectacular campaign in 2026. The ASUN Pitcher of the Year also earned first-team all-conference honors as a pitcher and an outfielder. In addition to being a finalist for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award, Dempsey was also named a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy and the Golden Spikes Award. He started all 57 of his team's games, sporting a .333 batting average, 79 hits, including 18 doubles and 10 home runs, scored 57 runs and tallied 46 RBI. His OPS (.948), on-base percentage (.412) and slugging percentage (.512) ranked among his squad's best. He led his squad with 15 stolen bases on 17 attempts. On the mound, he was simply outstanding. In 15 starts, he posted a 7-2 record with a 3.15 ERA, a league-leading 126 strikeouts, while only walking 26. He netted a 1.06 WHIP and allowed opposing hitters to hit only .209.

A 2026 Buster Posey Award finalist, Embury was recently named the ASUN Player of the Year and First Team All-ASUN after leading the league and ranking 21st nationally in hits per game (1.54) as of the end of conference tournament week. He also led the ASUN and ranks 63rd nationally in home runs per game (0.33) while ranking 56th nationally and second in the ASUN in total home runs (17). Embury was the ASUN's leader in both runs batted in (60) and RBIs per game (1.15), ranking 65th and 58th in the national rankings, respectively. His .655 slugging percentage was second in the ASUN and 85th nationally, while his 144 total bases rank 48th in the nation and lead the ASUN.

Gorostola was an All-ASUN First Team selection after finishing the year ranked 37th nationally (and third in the ASUN) in hits per game (1.50) while leading the ASUN and ranking 64th in the country in hits (81). The redshirt sophomore was second in the league and 70th in the nation after hitting .370 for the year
