MIDLOTHIAN, Va. - The Florida Gulf Coast University men's golf team wrapped up the first two rounds of the Giles-Spratley Collegiate on Monday, sitting in second place at 14-under par at Independence Golf Club. The Eagles climbed two spots on the leaderboardĀ behind a 10-under second round after opening at 4-under, trailing only Charleston heading into Tuesday's final round.
FGCU put together a strong opening day fueled by aggressive scoring and depth throughout the lineup, combining for 44 birdies across the first two rounds, tied for the most in the field.
Sacha Ruiz set the tone with a tournament-best 14 birdies to move into a tie for first, while
Sebastian Gamboa and
Nolan Harper provided key support, both sitting tied for 12th.
Christian Figueredo added a solid under-par opening round, and the Eagles used a 10-under second round surge to climb into second place overall heading into the final day.

Sacha Ruiz led the way for FGCU and is tied for first at 9-under par after rounds of 69 and 66. Ruiz recorded six birdies in his opening round to post a 3-under 69 despite a few bogeys. He followed with an outstanding second round, carding eight birdies, including sixĀ on the back nine, to shoot 6-under 66, the second best round of the day. His 14 total birdies lead the field.
Sebastian Gamboa is tied for 12th at 2-under par following rounds of 75 and 67. Gamboa made two birdies in the first round but was slowed by multiple bogeys. He bounced back in round two with an aggressive performance, tallying eightĀ birdies on his way to a 5-under 67, one of the lowest rounds of the day. His 10 birdies are tied for the sixth most in the field.
Nolan Harper is also tied for 12th at 2-under par after rounds of 70 and 72. Harper opened with five birdies in round one to shoot 2-under 70. In the second round, he added four more birdies, but a few early bogeys on the front nine kept him at even-par 72. His nine total birdies are tied for ninth in the field.
Christian Figueredo is tied for 37th at 1-over par after rounds of 70 and 75. Figueredo turned in a strong opening round with five birdies finishing 2-under 70. In round two, he struggled to find his shot on the front nine but found a groove in the back nine,Ā ultimately carding a 3-over 75.
Brett Moore is tied for 66th at 7-over par following rounds of 78 and 73. Moore recorded two birdies in the opening round but was hindered by several bogeys. He showed improvement in round two with three birdies, posting a 1-over 73.
Competing as an individual,
Brody Stevenson is also tied for 66th at 7-over par after rounds of 75 and 76. Stevenson totaled three birdies in round one to shoot 3-over 75. He added two birdies in round two, finishing with a 4-over 76.
As a team, the Eagles have recorded 44 birdies through two rounds, tied with Charleston for the most in the field.

FGCU returns to action Tuesday for the final round, looking to continue its momentum and battle for the team championship.
