Eagles Finish Sixth at Hootie Intercollegiate

AWENDAW, S.C. - The Florida Gulf Coast University men's golf team wrapped up play at the Hootie Intercollegiate on Tuesday afternoon, finishing tied for sixth place at 11-under par in a tournament that featured a strong field of teams from across the country.

Sebastian Gamboa and Nolan Harper paced the Eagles with top-15 finishes, both tying for 11th at 5-under, while Brett Moore added a strong performance in a tie for 24th at 2-under. Sacha Ruiz contributed with a tie for 36th, and Christian Figueredo rounded out the group. As a team, FGCU totaled 47 birdies and 177 pars, tied for the third most in the field, with Harper and Moore each recording 13 birdies, and Gamboa and Ruiz leading the way in pars, highlighting the Eagles' consistency throughout the event.

How It Happened
Sebastian Gamboa and Nolan Harper led the way for the Eagles, with both players finishing tied for 11th at 5-under par. Gamboa closed his tournament with a 2-under 70 in the final round, recording three birdies across his round, including a clean stretch on the front nine to move up the leaderboard. Harper carded a final-round 71 (-1), highlighted by a birdies on the par-4 fourth, par-4 11th and another on the par-4 16th to secure his top-15 finish.

Brett Moore added a strong showing for FGCU, finishing tied for 24th at 2-under par. Moore posted an even-par 72 in the final round, mixing in four birdies on the front nine before battling through a challenging back nine to remain under par for the tournament.

Sacha Ruiz finished tied for 36th at 1-over par after a final-round 79 (+7). Ruiz struggled to find consistency on the front nine but steadied himself late, playing his final nine holes near even par to close out the event.

Christian Figueredo rounded out the lineup, finishing 80th at 14-over par. He carded a final-round 79 (+7), highlighted by a birdie on the par-4 fifth, but was unable to recover from a difficult stretch on the back nine.

As a team, the Eagles totaled 47 birdies and 177 pars over the three rounds, with their par total ranking tied for third in the field. Gamboa anchored the lineup with 43 pars, the second most among all competitors, while Ruiz added 39 pars to tie for seventh. Harper and Moore each recorded 13 birdies, tying for the sixth most in the tournament as FGCU delivered a balanced performance en route to a top-six finish.

What's Next
The Eagles will close out the regular season at the Gile-Spratley Invitational on April 6-7 in Midlothian, Virginia, at Independence Golf Club.
