Moore, Harper Lead Eagles in Round One of Hootie Intercollegiate

AWENDAW, S.C. - The Florida Gulf Coast University men's golf team opened play at the Hootie Intercollegiate on Sunday, finishing the first round in seventh place at 10-under par at Bulls Bay Golf Club.

FGCU opened the Hootie Intercollegiate with a balanced and steady performance across the lineup, highlighted by Brett Moore's 4-under 68 and Nolan Harper's 3-under 69, as both players combined for 10 birdies. Sacha Ruiz added a 2-under 70 with 14 pars, while Sebastian Gamboa posted a 1-under 71 and tied for the second-most pars in the field with 15, showcasing consistency throughout the round. Christian Figueredo rounded out the lineup with a 4-over 76.

How It Happened
Brett Moore led the way for the Eagles with a 4-under 68, placing him tied for 11th overall after the opening round. The sophomore carded five birdies on the day, including four on the front nine, helping him stay near the top of the leaderboard while tying for the 14th-most birdies in the field.

Nolan Harper followed closely behind at 3-under 69, sitting in a tie for 17th place. Harper also totaled five birdies in his round, highlighted by a strong stretch in the middle of his round that kept him under par throughout the day.

Sacha Ruiz posted a 2-under 70 and is tied for 29th overall. Ruiz delivered a steady performance, recording 14 pars, tied for the sixth most in the field, while mixing in key birdies to keep his round in red numbers.

Sebastian Gamboa turned in a 1-under 71 and is tied for 36th. Gamboa's round was anchored by consistency, as he recorded 15 pars, tied for the second most among all competitors, while limiting mistakes across the round.

Christian Figueredo rounded out the lineup with a 4-over 76 and sits in 75th place. Figueredo battled throughout the day while remaining steady on the front nine, but will look to rebound in the second round.

As a team, FGCU totaled 64 pars in the opening round, the most of any team in the field, showcasing a consistent approach across the lineup.
