MIDLOTHIAN, Va. - The No. 55 Florida Gulf Coast University men's golf team will travel to Midlothian, Virginia to compete in the Giles-Spratley Collegiate on April 6-7 at the Independence Golf Club. The Eagles will be represented by
Nolan Harper,
Sacha Ruiz,
Sebastian Gamboa,
Brett Moore and
Christian Figueredo, with
Brody Stevenson competing as an individual.
The Giles-Spratley Collegiate will take place at the Independence Golf Club, a par 72, 7,135-yard course. The tournament will feature 36 holes on Monday followed by a final 18 holes on Tuesday. Teams participating alongside FGCU include Charleston, Delaware, DePaul, East Carolina, Jacksonville, James Madison, Liberty, Longwood, North Alabama, North Florida, Richmond (host), Stetson and VCU. The field includes several top-100 programs, highlighted by No. 51 Charleston, No. 69 Stetson, No. 77 Liberty and No. 98 North Alabama.
FGCU enters its final tournament of the regular season ranked No. 55 nationally, ahead of No. 56 California, No. 57 Houston and No. 58 NC State, as the Eagles continue to climb in the national rankings.
The last time out for the Eagles was at the Hootie Intercollegiate, where FGCU finished tied for sixth place at 11-under par against a strong national field.
Sebastian Gamboa and
Nolan Harper led the way, both finishing tied for 11th at 5-under par. Gamboa closed with a 2-under 70 in the final round, while Harper carded a 1-under 71 to secure his top-15 finish.
Brett Moore added a solid performance, finishing tied for 24th at 2-under par after posting an even-par 72 in the final round.
Sacha Ruiz finished tied for 36th at 1-over par, rebounding late in his final round to close near even on his final nine holes.
Christian Figueredo rounded out the lineup in 80th at 14-over par. As a team, the Eagles totaled 47 birdies and 177 pars across the three rounds, with their par total ranking tied for third in the field. Gamboa led the team with 43 pars, the second most among all competitors, while Ruiz added 39 pars. Harper and Moore each recorded 13 birdies, tying for sixth most in the tournament as FGCU showcased strong balance throughout the lineup.
Individually this season, Harper leads the Eagles with a 69.9 adjusted scoring average, followed by Ruiz and Gamboa at 70.9, Moore at 71.5, Figueredo at 72.8, and Stevenson at 73.4.
Following the Giles-Spratley Collegiate, FGCU will turn its attention to the ASUN Championship, scheduled for April 21-23 at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, Georgia.
