HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – No. 3 seed Florida Gulf Coast (20-15) advanced to the ASUN Beach Volleyball Championship semifinals for the 11th consecutive season with a 3-1 win over No. 4 seed North Alabama (22-14) on Thursday afternoon.
With the win, the Eagles have recorded back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time in program history. All three 20-win seasons (2026, 2025 and 2022) for FGCU have come under head coach Chris Sweat.
The Eagles bounced back to defeat North Alabama after a hard-fought battle with No. 2 seed / No. 17 North Florida in the morning session on Thursday.
"That was one of the best collegiate atmospheres I've ever been a part of," Sweat said. "Going up 1-0 to down 1-2 and our 2's and 3's in absolute battles. Having 20-22 scores in the tiebreak shows that we can play with anyone in this country and although the outcome wasn't what we wanted, seeing the fight in the girls was amazing. Having the girls regroup to come back and beat a very consistent, well coached UNA team was great to see. We know the pressure only ramps up from here on out, but we are excited for tomorrow."
UNA took the first pair match of the duel on court 1, but FGCU took control the rest of the way.
Andrea Dietz and
Sydney Majick leveled the match at 1-1 with a 21-17, 21-14 win on court 3, and
Kaitlyn Beck and
Kristina Gluc put FGCU up 2-1 with a 21-14, 21-14 win on court 4. Moments after Beck and Gluc won,
Nicole De Oliveira and
Erin Miller won 21-16, 21-19 to seal the duel for FGCU.Â
Next, the Eagles move to the single-elimination semifinals against No. 1 seed Stetson at 10 a.m. ET on Friday, April 24. FGCU will aim to record its first-ever win over Stetson in the ASUN Championship to move to the finals on Friday afternoon.
