HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – No. 3 seed Florida Gulf Coast (19-15) came up just short, 3-1, against No. 2 seed North Florida (20-13) in the 1-0 match on Thursday morning.
Alexis Keeter and
Ava Lilliquist delivered a 21-16, 21-16 win at the No. 1 pair for FGCU to open the match, but the Ospreys took the No. 4 and 5 pairs to go up 2-1 in the duel.
The Eagles battled back on courts 2 and 3. After losing the first set on each court, FGCU forced a third set and staved off numerous UNF match points, pushing both courts to extra points before the Ospreys eventually eked out a 21-19 third set win for the match on court 3.
Next, the Eagles play at 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 23 against the winner of No. 8 Austin Peay and No. 4 North Alabama with a spot in the semifinals on the line.
