FGCU opens 2026 ASUN Tournament play in Quarterfinals on Wednesday

Fifth-seeded Eagles set to face No. 4 seed EKU

FORT MYERS, Fla. – A season's worth of preparation has led to Wednesday morning's battle as No. 5 seed FGCU (8-13) hosts No. 4 seed EKU (12-14) in the quarterfinals of the ASUN Men's Tennis Tournament, being held at the FGCU Tennis Complex.

First serve is set for 9 a.m. as the Eagles look to win three matches in four days. Live scoring will be available here.

QUICK LINKS FGCU is looking for a reversal of fortunes after injuries have plagued the team late into the season. However, the team has had a nearly two-week break to rest and recover, and enters this week with renewed energy.

Beware a healthy Eagles squad. The team defeated the reigning BIG EAST Conference champions, St. John's, in a 4-1 decision on Mar. 6 in a contest that capped a five-match win streak.

The Eagles are led by All-ASUN Second Team honoree Tanner Povey, who has spent the season at the No. 1 singles position, accumulating a 10-15 record. The Mar. 3 ASUN Player of the Week, Povey posted a 4-1 record in 10-point tiebreakers this season.

FGCU also has ASUN All-Freshman honoree Stefan Correa. The rookie posted an 11-8 record this year with a 6-4 mark in dual match action, and registered a 3-1 record in 10-point tiebreakers. Correa went on a personal five-match singles win streak across nearly a month earlier this season and has won six of the past eight matches that have reached a conclusion.

FGCU and EKU have never met in ASUN Tournament play, and have a 1-1 all-time series record against each other. The Eagles picked up a 6-1 home win in 2025 a year after dropping a 4-3 decision in Richmond, Kentucky.

EKU enters the ASUN championship event having won three of its last four matches, with victories over Southern Indiana, Bellarmine and Lipscomb during the month of April. The Colonels also picked up two singles points at No. 14 Illinois on Apr. 3.

Now the Colonels head into postseason play with momentum after five student-athletes earned ASUN postseason honors announced Monday by the league office.

Freshman Marek Nano was named ASUN Freshman of the Year and earned a spot on the ASUN All-Freshman Team after posting a 6-3 singles record during the spring season, including a perfect 6-0 mark against mid-major opponents.

Senior Fernando Bulnes was selected First Team All-ASUN following a standout season in which he compiled a team-best 11-7 singles record primarily from courts No. 2 and No. 3.

Rounding out EKU's postseason winners, senior Nuno Pinheiro earned Second Team All-ASUN recognition, the second all-conference honor of his career, after recording seven wins on the Colonels' top court this spring.

Freshman Ilie Cazac was also named to the ASUN All-Freshman Team after compiling an 8-9 singles record from courts No. 3 and No. 4. Senior Kartik Parhar also earned a spot on the ASUN All-Academic list for his efforts on the court and in the classroom.

Wednesday's match marks EKU's second ASUN Championship appearance since the program was reinstated in 2022. The Colonels are seeking their first conference tournament victory since a 4-0 win over Austin Peay in 2018.
