FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast softball (12-20, 6-1 ASUN) took the first game of the series with a 2-1 win over North Florida (26-12, 1-6 ASUN) on Saturday at the FGCU Softball Complex.
The Eagles scored both of their runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Ally Thompson broke through with a bloop double down the left field line for FGCU's second hit of the game, and
Sietske Drijvers tripled to right center on a 1-2 count to score Thompson.
Mackenzie Leiti brought Drijvers home with an RBI groundout that would be the eventual winning run.
Drijvers' RBI triple came after committing an error in the top half of the frame that allowed North Florida to score its lone run of the game. She atoned for her mistake with the triple before scoring the winning run.
In the circle,
Julia Bacoulis (6-9) earned the win after five innings pitched in relief of
Victoria Ash. The duo allowed five hits and one unearned run to the Ospreys. Bacoulis fanned three to move to 51 total strikeouts on the season.
UNF was led by Bella Cimino, who walked twice and doubled. Taylor Cook (4-3) allowed two runs on three hits in six innings pitched.Â
