With a doubleheader sweep of Palm Beach Atlantic, the FGCU Softball Stadium opened on February 12, 2004. Positioned beyond right field of Swanson Stadium, the FGCU Softball Complex provides a beautiful Florida backdrop to fans with a berm of Palm Trees and landscaping fitting for Southwest Florida. The FGCU Softball Stadium is home to the FGCU Softball team, which has won three ASUN Championships, as well as being the first FGCU Athletics program to record an NCAA postseason victory when it beat the University of Florida, 2-1, in the First Round of the 2012 NCAA Softball Tournament.

The team’s on-field success has led to several improvements in the facility since its 2004 opening. In 2009, the Outdoor Sports Complex (OSC) was built behind the softball grandstands providing a new team locker room and lounge, new coaches offices, an equipment room, equipment storage, and an athletic training room. Additionally, it provided the stadium with a new concessions stand and public restrooms.

Further improvements continued in 2011 when the stadium received a facelift with the seating capacity being expanded from 250 to 361, all new seating being chair backs, and adding covered ADA seating underneath the new grandstands. Additionally, a state-of-the-art permanent steel roof was built to provide shade to fans. This renovation project was also designed for future growth. Improvements continued in 2011 when a permanent sound system was added to the facility and tied into the enclosed press box. Furthermore, in 2012, the stadium’s functionality improved when protective fences were added in front of the dugouts, the bullpens were relocated from the field to beyond the right and left field fence, and a protective net addition was added over the seats to the existing backstop net.

In addition to the improvements made to the FGCU Softball Stadium, the stadium features the Hertzog Family Videoboard in left field (installed in 2016), state of the art lighting, spacious dugouts, permanent chair back seating, a covered and lit hitting facility, and an enclosed press box underneath the stands behind home plate. The stadium may be best known for its playing surface, which is widely considered one of the best in the state of Florida and was nominated for Sports Turf Management’s Field of the Year recognition.

Most recently, the softball program formally dedicated the Rasnick Family Patio in 2020 to Steve and Joanne.
