Nora Svensson named ASUN Player of the Week

This marks the second ASUN honor for Svensson this season

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After becoming the first Atlantic Sun Conference player this dual season to defeat a ranked opponent, FGCU's Nora Svensson has been named the ASUN Player of the Week.

This marks the second ASUN Player of the Week honor Svensson has earned this year and the third by an Eagle after Anjali Kotecha received the title on Jan. 27.

Last week, Svensson posted a 2-0 record in singles with a 1-0 mark in doubles. Her dominating 6-2, 6-2 over No. 80 Stephanie Yakoff of Harvard marked the FGCU sophomore's first career win over a ranked opponent, the first for any ASUN player this dual season, and the first for the Eagles since 2022. Svensson also rallied back from a deficit to beat then-No. 75 ETSU's Ksenija Rage, 4-6, 7-5, 6-0, was a critical point in FGCU's first-ever win over a ranked opponent.

In doubles action, Svensson partnered with June Bjork and nearly had an upset win in doubles as the pair led No. 49 Kavya Karra and Stephanie Yakoff of Harvard, 5-2, when the doubles point was secured and halted their match. Just two days prior, they teamed up to beat ETSU's Alessandra Caceres and Mariangel Estralla, 6-3.

So far this season Svensson is 18-5 in singles, has won six of her last seven completed matches and has a 1-1 record against nationally-ranked opponents. In doubles, she has tallied a 14-7 record overall.

Svensson and the Eagles (13-5) host another nationally-ranked opponent on Wednesday at 10 a.m. when No. 67 Brown (11-3) visits Southwest Florida.
