Eagles Extend Season with WNIT Bid

Harmon leads program to postseason in first year as head coach

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast University women's basketball season isn't over yet. Extending a postseason streak that now stretches over two decades, the Eagles have accepted an invitation to the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT).

Game matchups, dates, and times are expected to be announced on Monday, with ticket information to follow shortly. First-round games in the WNIT are scheduled for Mar. 19–21, while second-round games will take place Mar. 22–24.

Sunday's announcement means that FGCU will be participating in the postseason for the 18th consecutive season and marks the program's seventh appearance in the WNIT. FGCU's most recent trip came in 2016, when the Eagles advanced to the WNIT Championship game before falling to South Dakota, 71–65. FGCU holds an 8–6 record in the tournament.

This season, the Eagles compiled a 16–15 overall record and an 11–7 mark in the ASUN. FGCU averaged 63.6 points per game while holding opponents to 59.0, finishing the season with a +4.6-scoring margin. Offensively, the Eagles knocked down 197 three-pointers and shot 43.1 percent from the field while also controlling the glass with a +2.4-rebounding margin. Sinai Douglas led the team with 11.3 points per game, followed closely by Nay Staton at 10.7, as five players averaged at least 5.6 points per contest. FGCU's depth and defensive intensity helped fuel several key conference wins down the stretch.

Harmon is among a group of only six coaches in this year's WNIT led by first-year head coaches at their respective schools, joining the leaders at Army West Point, George Washington, Mercyhurst, Morehead State and Norfolk State.

The Green & Blue now await their opening-round opponent in the WNIT, which begins Thursday, Mar. 19. The full bracket and schedule are scheduled to be released Monday, Mar. 16.
