MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -Â The No. 50 Florida Gulf Coast University men's golf team will travel to Myrtle Beach, S.C., to compete in the inaugural Michael A. Marino Classic on March 15-17 at the Dunes Golf & Beach Club. Representing the Eagles will be
Nolan Harper,
Sebastian Gamboa,
Brett Moore,
Christian Figueredo and
Sacha Ruiz, while
Brody Stevenson will compete as an individual.
The Michael A. Marino Classic will take place at the Dunes Golf & Beach Club, a par-72, 7,270-yard course. The tournament field features Baylor, Charleston, Coastal Carolina (host), Furman, Kansas State, Kent State, Liberty, No. 47 Little Rock, Louisiana, No. 33 Louisville, Michigan, Missouri, NC State, North Florida and No. 37 UNLV.
The last time out, FGCU captured a share of the team championship at The Johnnie-O at Sea Island, finishing at 42-under par to tie Georgia Southern for the top spot in a 15-team field that included four top-50 programs. The Eagles closed the tournament with a 10-under final round to secure their second team title of the season.
Christian Figueredo led the Eagles individually, finishing tied for 10th at 10-under par.
Nolan Harper followed closely behind in a tie for 12th at 9-under, while
Sebastian Gamboa and
Sacha Ruiz both finished tied for 21st at 7-under.
Brett Moore delivered one of the highlights of the final round, firing an 8-under 64 to climb the leaderboard and finish tied for 27th at 6-under. As a team, FGCU recorded 70 birdies during the tournament and led the field with just 21 bogeys across the three rounds.
Following the conclusion of the Michael A. Marino Classic, the Eagles will remain in South Carolina to compete in the Hootie Intercollegiate on March 22-24 at Bulls Bay Golf Club in Awendaw, S.C., hosted by Charleston.
