TAMPA – Siya Mokgothu set a new school record in the 3,000m and was one of three Eagles to claim wins at the Tampa Spartans Open late Saturday night.
Mokgothu ran 8:27.69 to shatter the school 3K record by over 11 seconds as he claimed his first career win in the 3K and his second career win overall on the track. The Eagles junior won by nearly five seconds.
Also in the men's 3K,
Jacob Leon set a new freshman school record in the event by clocking 8:41.58, finishing sixth in the race. His time not only set a freshman school record but also posted the fifth-fastest time in program history.
On the women's side,
Ozia Trujillo Mokgothu ran the second-fastest 3K time in program history as she won with a mark of 9:46.54.
Another win came in the 5,000m as
Alise Petrova ran 17:26.73 to pace the field. Her time ranks 11
th in school history as she beat the rest of the field by at least 16 seconds.
Next up for the Eagles is the Spartans Classic, set for Mar. 13 in Tampa.
