FGCU sweeps past Southeastern Louisiana

Jaramillo clinches match for Eagles, Bjork claims first win as ranked player

FORT MYERS, Fla. – FGCU got back into the win column Monday morning as the Eagles swept past a previously undefeated Southeastern Louisiana team, 4-0, at the FGCU Tennis Complex.

The win for the Eagles (6-2) marks their fourth in their last five matches and keeps the Green & Blue undefeated at home. For Southeastern Louisiana (6-1), it marks the first loss of the season and ends a two-match swing in the Sunshine State.

"Today was another very good opportunity to grow," said head coach Courtney Vernon. "The ladies are learning each time they compete and we are looking forward to getting back to work to prepare for Friday's match."

FGCU secured the doubles point with victories on courts two and three. At No. 2 doubles, Cecilie Maeland and Ashley Matz defeated a previously undefeated Taisia Bolsova and Aitana Darder, 6-0. On court three, Sabrina Jaramillo and Anjali Kotecha registered their first doubles win of the season with a 6-3 scoreline over Mariam Tetradze and Adriana Tirado.

In singles play, FGCU continued its momentum with Kotecha's 6-2, 6-2 victory over Mariam Makashvili at No. 3 singles, marking Kotecha's 10th singles win of the season. June Bjork, ranked No. 112 in the nation, registered her first win since receiving the ranking and posted a 6-3, 6-2 win over Panatachak Suanarsa.

Jaramillo then clinched the match with a 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 win over Paige Duncan at No. 5 singles, also recording her 10th singles win of the season.

FGCU continues its six-match homestand on Friday with a 10 a.m. contest against Mercer before hosting Arkansas State on Sunday at 10 a.m.
