ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast University men's golf team opens its spring season this week, traveling to Atlantic Beach, Fla., to compete in the SeaBest Invitational on Feb. 2-3. The Eagles will be represented by
Nolan Harper,
Sebastian Gamboa,
Brett Moore,
Christian Figueredo,
Sacha Ruiz and
Sam Baker.
The SeaBest Invitational will be played at Atlantic Beach Country Club, a par-71, 6,887-yard, 18-hole course. Teams scheduled to compete include Central Florida, No. 5 Florida, Florida Atlantic, No. 39 Florida State, Jacksonville (host), Kennesaw State, Liberty, Lipscomb, Louisiana Tech, North Alabama, North Carolina-Wilmington, North Florida, South Carolina - Upstate and No. 34 Texas A&M.
The Eagles last competed at the Ka'anapali Classic by OUTRIGGER in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii. The Eagles finished fourth out of 19 teams at 40-under-par and recorded 77 birdies over the three rounds, ranking second among all teams in the field. At the tournament, FGCU finished ahead of No. 39 Colorado and No. 41 Kansas.
The group was led by
Nolan Harper, who posted a fourth-place finish at 16-under-par (197) after rounds of 70, 63 and 64. His second-round 63 tied the program's single-round record, matching teammate
Brett Moore, and his 54-hole score tied former Eagle and current PGA Tour member Frankie Capan III for the lowest three-round total in program history. Harper finished the week with 19 birdies, tied for the fifth-most in the field, while Moore added a tie for 25th at 8-under (205).
Sacha Ruiz and
Sebastian Gamboa each finished at 5-under (208), and
Christian Figueredo also tied at 5-under while competing as an individual.
Sam Baker, also competing as an individual, rounded out the Eagles' group during the tournament at 9-over (222).
Following the SeaBest Invitational, FGCU will continue its spring schedule at the Gators Invitational on Feb. 14-15 in Gainesville, Fla., at the Mark Bostick Golf Club, hosted by the University of Florida.
