MIAMI, Fla. — Florida Gulf Coast University women's tennis dropped a 7–0 decision at the University of Miami on Wednesday afternoon, but
Anjali Kotecha and
Nora Svensson delivered a highlight performance with a 7–5 victory in doubles No. 2 earlier in the match.
In singles action, Miami pulled ahead quickly at singles No. 4,
Sabarina Jaramillo fell with a 6–2, 6–0 loss, giving the Hurricanes an early lead. Shortly after,
Africa Burillo lost 6–1, 6–0 at singles No. 6, extending Miami's advantage.
Svensson competed at singles No. 1 against Miami's Raquel Gonzales, who entered the match ranked No. 100. In a competitive matchup, Svensson was edged 6–4, 7–5, a result that officially clinched the match for the Hurricanes.
At singles No. 5, Kotecha started strong by sweeping the first set 6–0, but ultimately lost 6–3, 6–2.
Ashley Matz battled in her singles No. 3 match but came up short in a close contest, falling 6–4, 7–6 (4).
June Bjork wrapped up singles action for FGCU at No. 2 with a 6–4, 7–5 loss, completing Miami's 7–0 sweep of the singles lineup.
FGCU will return to action Friday, hosting FAMU for a 10 a.m. match.
