FORT MYERS, Fla. — The Florida Gulf Coast University men's tennis team fell in both matches of a doubleheader Friday, dropping a 7–0 decision in the afternoon and a 4–0 result in the evening against Tulsa.
In the opening match,
Jonathan Baron and
Gustav Hasslegren dropped their doubles match on court No. 1, and the Golden Hurricane (2–0) won the remaining two doubles courts to secure the doubles point. In singles play,
CJ Smith fell 6–4, 6–0 on court No. 6 as Tulsa extended its lead to 2–0.
Pablo Paternostro dropped a 6–3, 6–1 decision on court No. 2 before Ruben Fernandez clinched the match with a 6–3, 6–2 victory on court No. 4.
In the evening match, Tulsa again opened by winning the doubles point. Smith fell 6–0, 6–3 on court No. 6, and Hasslegren dropped a 6–2, 6–3 decision on court No. 2.
Jonathan Baron fell 6–1, 6–3 on court No. 1 to clinch the match for the Golden Hurricane.
FGCU continues its road trip Saturday in Fayetteville, Arkansas, facing Arkansas (2–0) at noon before taking on Oral Roberts (1–0) at 5 p.m.
