FORT MYERS, Fla. – Sebastian Gamboa climbed the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship leaderboard Wednesday to put himself into a three-way tie for second at seven-under-par in Valdosta, Georgia.
Gamboa recorded a six-under, 66 in round two to make his move around Kinderlou Forest Golf Course. He entered the day tied for 20th, opening the championship with a one-under 71 but would improve 18 spots to head into Thursday's final round in contention for the individual title. Gamboa was the second-highest mover of the day.
The sophomore got hot early and was three-under through four holes. He rattled off three straight birdies on holes two, three and four. Gamboa would make up four strokes in a three-hole span on the back nine. He eagled the par-five 14th and then birdied on 15 and 16. Gamboa is two shots back of the tournament leader, Central Arkansas' Noah Blaickner who posted a 71 Wednesday after a tournament-low, eight-under 64 on Tuesday.
As a team, FGCU climbed into third place, tying second-place Stetson for the best round of the day. Both FGCU and the Hatters went 11-under Wednesday. The Eagles (-17), who dropped four strokes late, are just three shots back of the Hatters (-20). Central Arkansas remains in control of first at 24-under-par, sparked by a 17-under-par team round to open the championship. The Eagles and the Hatters are within striking distance of making it a thrilling three-team finish down the stretch Thursday.
Freshman Nolan Harper is not far behind and in 10th place through 36 holes. Harper has posted back-to-back under-par rounds and is four-under for the tournament. He turned in a three-under, 69 and a bogey-free effort Wednedsay.
Brett Moore was tied for second through the first 18 holes, but the freshman has fallen to 19th and two-under on day two. Moore started with a five-under 67, but followed with a 75. Brody Stevenson produced a courting score Wednesday in a substitution role, a two-under 70 to help put the Eagles into a position for a team title.
The third and final round of the 2025 ASUN Championship from Kinderlou Forest Golf Course in Valdosta, Georgia, is set for Thursday. FGCU tees off at 8:50 a.m., starting with Stevenson on hole No. 1.
