Eagles sweep Knights to advance to semifinals

Florida Gulf Coast University men's tennis swept the Bellarmine Knights, 4-0, in the opening round of the ASUN Men's Tennis Tournament in Jacksonville, Fla. on Thursday.

The doubles point started with the dynamic duo of Guglielmo Steffanci and Pablo Paternostro winning their match, moving to 9-0 against ASUN opponents. Bellarmine would win on doubles court three leading to the decisive match on court one.

The top pairs on each side battled all the way to a final set tiebreaker where Hugo Magnusson and Johnathan Baron took the breaker 7-3 to secure the doubles point.

CJ Smith and Ninad Raut entered into the match after not playing doubles and made quick work of their courts. Smith won one and three while Raut won one and two.

With just one more court needed to secure the win, the Eagles were leading on two of the four remaining courts.

Magnusson would be the clincher, winning 6-1, 6-4 on court one to advance the Eagles on to the next round.

Next up for the Green and Blue are the Stetson Hatters. The teams faced off about a month ago in Fort Myers with Stetson winning 5-2. The match is slated to start at 11:30 a.m.
