CJ Smith clinched the match with a win on court six, four and six, as Florida Gulf Coast University men's tennis beat Eastern Kentucky, 6-1.
The momentum started for the Eagles (8-12, 2-1 ASUN) with identical 6-3 wins on doubles one and two from
Hugo Magnusson and Johnathan Baron on one and
Guglielmo Stefanacci and
Pablo Paternostro on two.
Ninad Raut secured the first singles point for FGCU when he took the win by retirement in a 6-2, 2-0 win from court five.
Senior captain Stefanacci took the next point in a dominating 6-1, 6-1 fashion.
CJ Smith clinched the match with an ace on court six, securing the match by way of a 6-4, 6-0 score.
With the Green and Blue now up 4-0, Magnusson and Paternostro took the next two points within five minutes of each other. Magnusson won 6-3, 6-4 and Paternostro won 7-6 (1), 6-0.
FGCU returns to action with some road Atlantic Sun Conference action on Friday and Sunday against Lipscomb and North Alabama.
