FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University women's tennis battled the 2024 ASUN Tournament champion Stetson University before falling 4-3 Tuesday afternoon at the FGCU Tennis Complex.
The Hatters (9-3, 2-2 ASUN) took the doubles point by winning two of the three doubles matches.
When the singles matches got under way, Stetson took its lead to 2-0 as
Anjali Kotecha fell 6-3, 6-2 on court No. 3.
Francisca Vergara put the Green and Blue (7-6, 1-1 ASUN) on the board winning 6-1, 6-2 on court No. 5.
Nora Svensson tied the match for FGCU delivering a 6-4, 6-3 victory on court No. 4.
Isabella Colmenares fell 6-2, 7-6 (9-7) on court No. 2 and Stetson once again had the advantage. Freshman
Ashley Matz gave fans a show on court No. 1 winning 6-4 in the first set before dropping the second 4-6 and rallying back to take the final set 6-4.
With the match tied at 3-3, the winner would be decided on court No. 6.
Gabriela Macias rallied through three grueling sets, but Stetson's Anastasija Adeikyte was victorious with a 5-7, 7-6 (7-0), 6-3 score.
FGCU will now hit the road to battle University of Central Arkansas (7-6) Sunday at 11 a.m. in Conway, Arkansas.
