FGCU women’s cross country sweeps ASUN weekly awards

FORT MYERS, Fla. — The Florida Gulf Coast University women's cross country team swept this week's Atlantic Sun Conference awards, as Ozia Trujillo was named Runner of the Week and Tess Shultz earned Freshman of the Week honors, the league announced Wednesday.

It marks Trujillo's third ASUN award of the season and the second for Shultz.

"Ozia and the women's team did a fantastic job running the Holloway Park cross-country course this past weekend," FGCU head coach Argeo Cruz said. "After not competing for over a month, Ozia was ready to go out there and run fearless again. She did a great job representing the Green and Blue."

won the individual title at the Ed Holloway XC Classic, helping the Green and Blue capture the overall team championship. She stopped the clock at 20:48 in the 6K, the fourth-fastest time in program history.

"Tess has been training very hard this season and learning from each race," Cruz said. "Holloway Park was her first-ever 6K, and she set a new freshman 6K record right away. Seeing her progression this season while enjoying the sport with teammates has been fun."

Shultz finished second overall with a time of 21:55 — the fastest 6K ever run by an FGCU freshman — securing a one-two finish for the Eagles and helping the team clinch the meet title.

FGCU's next scheduled meet is the ASUN Championship on Oct. 31 in Jacksonville, Florida.
