Eagles head to Jacksonville for Fall Individuals

FORT MYERS, Fla. — The Florida Gulf Coast University men's tennis team is set to travel to Jacksonville, Fla. this weekend, as select Eagles are set to compete in the Fall Individuals at the UNF Tennis Complex.

Play begins Thursday, October 23, and continues through Saturday, October 25, with Sunday, October 26, reserved as a weather makeup day.

The tournament will feature both singles and doubles draws, with players vying for qualification spots into the ITA South Sectional. Head coach Josh Molino will send Jonathan Baron, Hugo Magnusson, Pablo Paternostro, and Tanner Povey to represent the Green and Blue. All four will compete in singles action, while Magnusson and Paternostro will pair up in doubles alongside Baron and Povey.

FGCU joins a competitive field that includes host North Florida, along with Abilene Christian, North Alabama, UT Arlington, Lipscomb, Bellarmine, Eastern Kentucky, Stetson, and Austin Peay.

Singles play will feature a 32-player compass draw ensuring each competitor at least two to three matches, along with a 16-player qualifying draw from which eight players will advance to the main draw. Matches up to the semifinals will utilize a 10-point tiebreaker in lieu of a full third set, while the semifinals and finals will play out with traditional best-of-three scoring.

The doubles competition will feature a 20-team compass draw, also guaranteeing multiple matches per team. All rounds leading up to the finals will be played as a single set to six with a tiebreaker at 6–6. The championship match will be contested in a best-of-three format, with a 10-point tiebreaker deciding the third set if needed.
