Florida Gulf Coast University men's golf closed day one of the Bearcat Invitational Monday in seventh place. Cumberland University transfer Tom Scullion is tied for ninth in his Eagles debut.
"I'm very proud of our team. They competed well all day long." head coach Andrew Danna said. "We are looking forward to another opportunity in the morning."
FGCU led the 18-team field by two strokes shortly after making the turn during Monday's opening round. The Eagles penciled in a 283 to open the season, followed by a 293. The Green and Blue found themselves in a five-way tie for second place heading into round two.
In the second round of the day, FGCU (+8) slid down the leaderboard to seventh place. Only six strokes separate fourth place from 12th overall. The Eagles are perched directly in the middle of the tight field. The third and final round of the Bearcat Invitational is set for Tuesday.

Two new faces shined for FGCU. Scullion is tied for ninth at one-under in his first-ever tournament as an Eagle. Scullion began his day with an even 71 and later carded a one-under 70 to finish his outing, sinking three birdies.
Brett Moore, a freshman, paced the Eagles' starting five early with a three-under 68. He entered the clubhouse Monday tied for 17th at one-over. Louisville's Sebastian Moss sits atop the player leaderboard at eight-under.
Returner Sebastian Gamboa began with a one-under 70, marking the third Eagle to card a par or better round in round one. Gamboa is tied for 23rd at two-over-par heading into Tuesday's action.
