Sullivan caps postseason run at Austin Regional

Joseph Sullivan tied for 25th at the Austin Regional Wednesday to close out the final round of the NCAA Men's Golf Championship in Austin, Texas.

"I'm really proud of Joe. He did a great job this week," head coach Andrew Danna said. "He managed the golf course really well. Joe will go down as one of the greats to ever come through our program. Joe has a tremendous future ahead. I look forward to watching him join the pro ranks with our other alumni."

Sullivan entered the third round just two shots behind the low individuals. The top five teams and the low individual not on the advancing teams punched a ticket into the national championship field in Carlsbad, California. A finals-bound path began to reveal itself to Sullivan.

Before the Eagle even teed off, Wake Forest had overtaken Utah on the team leaderboard by three strokes for the fifth advancing spot, eliminating any Demon Deacons from his path. The senior teed off at 11:04 a.m. (ET) and birdied his first hole of the day.

After one, Sullivan trailed low individuals Jacob Skov Olesen (Arkansas), Gustav Frimodt (TCU) and Kelvin Hernandez (UNCG) by just a single shot, moving to three-under-par for the tournament. However, the low individual leaderboard began to shift away from Sullivans' favor as other golfers made a final charge.

UNCG's Hernandez ultimately advanced to the finals as the low individual, fending off other challengers and finished tied for third overall at six-under-par. Sullivan entered the clubhouse one final time, signing a 75 scorecard to sit at two-over in the running. Sullivan opened the regional with an even-71 and then produced a two-under 69 on Tuesday.

The Englishman capped his postseason run by setting the program single-season record for the most par or better rounds with 23. He also broke the record for the most rounds ever played by an Eagle in a single season with 39. Entering the regional, his round average of 70.9 marked the lowest in program history.
