Joseph Sullivan posted a two-under, 69 scorecard Tuesday during the second round of the Austin Regional in Austin, Texas.
"Really proud of Joe," head coach Andrew Danna said. "He played well all day. We are looking forward to another opportunity to compete tomorrow."
Sullivan is tied for 14th overall heading into Wednesday's final round. The top five teams and the low individual not on those teams will advance to the finals May 24-29 in Carlsbad, California. A path still remains for Sullivan.
As of Tuesday, Sullivan would be fifth in the running to advance. Wake Forest's Michael Brennan (-7) is in line to advance as his Demon Deacon squad is currently sixth as a team, just two strokes back of the fifth advancing team (Utah). If Wake Forest is able to overtake Utah, Brennan disappears as an obstacle for Sullivan. The highest-ranked Utah men's golfer, Javier Barcos, is tied for 17th at one-under.
Sullivan (-2) would then only have to catch Arkansas' Jacob Skov Olesen, TCU's Gustav Frimodt and UNCG's Kelvin Hernandez. Olesen and Frimodt are tied at four-under, while Hernadez is at three-under-under. In this scenario, Sullivan is positioned just two strokes back of the leaders and from punching his ticket to the finals.
Sullivan sank five birdies, knocked in 10 par putts and scratched in only three bogeys Tuesday. He produced back-to-back birdies on holes three and four. On Monday, Sullivan double-bogeyed the fourth despite carding an even-par 71 effort. The Englishman has dropped a birdie on the first hole both days.
The senior broke the program's single-season record for the most rounds ever played Monday, his 37th round of the season. He also set the program's single-season record for the most par or better rounds with his 22nd such round of the year.
Sullivan tees off the third and final round of the Austin Regional Wednesday at 11:04 a.m. (ET).
