Joseph Sullivan forced a three-way playoff Tuesday at the 2024 ASUN Championship before ultimately falling to Lipscomb's Will Holan in Dothan, Alabama.
Sullivan gave himself an opportunity by closing his final round with back-to-back birdies, signing a four-under 68 scorecard. Sullivan entered the clubhouse two strokes behind the tournament leaders.
At the time, Lipscomb's Ford Goldasiach paced the tournament field at eight-under. Another Bison and eventual champion, Will Holan, positioned himself into the mix, sitting at seven-under.
Goldasiach then triple-bogeyed the 16th, and William Holan bogeyed the 18th as Sullivan looked on. Holan had sunk four straight birdies before faltering under the building pressure. Goldasiach responded with a birdie after his blunder to work his way back into the eventual three-way tie.
As the dust settled, Sullivan, Holan, and Goldasiach walked over to the playoff tee box, each at six-under par. Sullivan would par his playoff hole, but Holan prevailed by sinking a lengthy putt from near the fringe to win the individual crown. Holan capped his six-under 66 Tuesday to earn the title.
Sullivan and company will await to see if the Eagles get selected for an at-large bid to an upcoming NCAA Regional. The NCAA Selection show will air May 1 at 2 p.m. on the Golf Channel.
As a team, The Eagles (+7)Â placed fourth overall. FGCU rattled off its best round of the three-day championship Tuesday, firing a five-under 283 to climb up one position and overtake Stetson. Lipscomb (-16)Â captured the team title as well, winning by 17 shots.Â
Evan Thompson (+3) finished tied for 12th with his best round of the event, a one-under 71. Thompson notched back-to-back birdies on hole No. 11 and 12 and ended his outing with another red number on the 18th.
Matt Millar tied for 21st, also posting a 71 on Tuesday, highlighted by his eagle on hole No. 9.
