Florida Gulf Coast Univeristy split the doubleheader in Jacksonville, Fla. against the University of North Florida on Saturday, taking the first game 4-3.
Avery Viancos continued her torrid hitting pace in conference going 4-for-6 on the day with two runs, two doubles, and one walk.
Claire Maulding was exceptional in the circle for the Eagles in the second game taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning and not allowing an earned run.
FGCU 4, UNF 3
The Eagles came out in the first game and got on the board early when Viancos scored after stealing third and forcing a bad throw, allowing her to advance home.
The Ospreys came back to score three runs in the third inning but the Green and Blue fought back. In the fifth inning,
Neely Peterson drove in her team-leading 24th and 25th RBI with a double to left center to bring the game even at three.
Nikki Gibson stepped up to the plate with Peterson standing on second and put a ball through the middle. The speedy catcher circled third and came home to give the Eagles the 4-3 lead.
With
Angelina Bonilla in the circle, and a one-run lead, Bonilla shut down the Ospreys with three no-hit innings to finish off the game.
FGCU 0, UNF 1
Maulding was the starter for the second game and she continued her hot stretch in conference play. She has a paltry 0.35 WHIP coming into the game and allowed one hit and two walks over six innings.
The Eagles offense was statistically better in this game with on OPS over double that of the Ospreys. UNF found a way to score in their only offensive inning.
In the sixth inning, UNF got their first hit. They advanced the runner on a sacrifice bunt before bringing in a pinch runner. The speed at second caused an error on the Eagles on the aggressive base runner came home, narrowly beating out the throw for the only run of the game.
Viancos was the offensive might for the Eagles in the game, going 3-for-3 including a double on a heads up base running play.
