FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University's women's tennis team capitalized on home court advantage and triumphed over the University of North Alabama, 5-2 Sunday.
The Eagles pushed their Atlantic Sun Conference record to 3-1 while the Lions (9-4) fell to 0-2 in conference action.
"The ladies competed well today," said FGCU head women's tennis coach
Courtney Vernon. "They are learning and growing each time they compete. UNA was a well coached team that has improved a lot. We are looking forward to getting back to work this week."
The Lions won the doubles point to begin the day but the Eagles slowly took back control of the match.

Jordana Ossa easily won her match on court No. 4 with a 6-0, 6-3 decision to even the match before
Ida Ferding gave the Green & Blue the lead with a 6-3, 6-4 score on court No. 5.

Paloma Goldsmith kept up the offensive barrage delivering a 6-4, 6-3 win on court No.3.
Isabella Colmenares then clinched the match with a three-set rally on court No. 2 going 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.
Fanny Norin added the final point for the Eagles winning 7-6 (5), 7-5 on court No. 1. Kopel pushed through sets but ultimately fell 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 to wrap up the Eagles 5-2 win.

FGCU heads to Austin Peay next Sunday for a 10 a.m. start time in Clarksville, Tennessee.
