Sebastian Gamboa placed ninth at The Clerico on Tuesday to highlight Florida Gulf Coast University men's golf in Tulsa, Oklahoma, while Christian Figueredo put together a top-three finish as an individual at the Florida Atlantic Invitational.
"I'm really proud of our team," head coach Andrew Danna said. "We are looking forward to our next opportunity to compete in the spring."
Gamboa carded the only par or better round for FGCU in Oklahoma with his second-round 70. He opened the event with a three-over 73, and then made up 15 spots in the second round all sparked by his eagle opportunity on hole No. 2. On Tuesday, Gamboa kept his hot streak alive by sinking back-to-back birdies on holes No. 1 and No. 2, climbing up another two spots on the leaderboard for his second top-10 finish of the fall.
As a team out in Oklahoma, the Eagles took 11th. No. 30 Northwestern won the 13-team tournament by 12 strokes over host Oral Roberts.
In Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Figueredo produced a career-best finish at a DI tournament event. He shot a career-low 66 in round two to emerge as the tournament leader through 36 holes. Figueredo climbed as high as six-under on Monday. He would finish Tuesday with a 78 to hold on for third place at one-over, wrapping up his fall season. South Florida's Jake Peacock won the individual crown at three-under-par.
FGCU shifts its focus to the spring slate as the Eagles return to the course in February for the Sea Best Invitational, hosted by Jacksonville in Jacksonville, Florida. The Green Blue hosts the Old Corkscrew Intercollegiate in April.
