SAN ANTONIO – Florida Gulf Coast University men's golf slid into a tie for sixth place Sunday to finish round two of the Valero Texas Collegiate.
"Our team did a great job sticking to the game plan the entire day," head coach Andrew Danna said. "We found some momentum on the back nine that we'll look to continue tomorrow morning."
Texas Christian University climbed up three spots to lead the 12-team tournament at 4-under-par. FGCU enters Monday's final round of play tied alongside Liberty University at 4-over.
Only one stroke separates five teams. FGCU trails fourth place Virginia (+3) by one, who is tied with the University of Oklahoma. Entering the Sunday, FGCU was tied for second. The Eagles posted a team round of 295 after opening the tournament with a 285.
Joseph Sullivan remains in contention for the individual title. Sullivan is perched in third place, now at 4-under-par after firing a 1-under round of 70. Sullivan positioned himself just two strokes off the tournament leaders.
TCU's Gustav Frimodt and Baylor University's Johnny Keefer lead the event at 6-under.
At even par, Austin Cherichella and Matt Millar are tied for 14th on the player leaderboard. Cherichella shaved two strokes Sunday, matching Sullivan's round of 70.
FGCU leads the 12-team field in made birdies with 37.
The third and final round of the Valero Texas Collegiate is set for Monday.
