FORT MYERS, Fla. - For the first time in program history, Florida Gulf Coast University's men's basketball team will host a team ranked nationally in the Top 10 as the Eagles take on cross-coast foe No. 7 Florida Atlantic University. Tip time is set for 7 p.m. in a game that will shine the national spotlight on FGCU.
FGCU (5-9) has won back-to-back games for the first time this season after last Friday's 78-75 win over Florida Memorial University.
Blaise Vespe connected on a 3-pointer with 0.8 to go in overtime to lift the short-handed Eagles to the victory.
Rahmir Barno played 40:11 in the contest, with the freshman finishing with a season-high 17 points.
FAU (10-2) is coming off a 96-95 win in double overtime over then-No. 4 Arizona in Las Vegas, Nevada. In addition to the high ranking in the Associated Press Top 25, the Owls are also ranked No. 6 in the NCAA NET rankings.
The game will feature two of the most accurate shooters in the country so far this season. FGCU's
Keeshawn Kellman has connected on 70.3 percent of his shots from the field, ranking him third in the country prior to Friday night's games. FAU's Vladislav Goldin leads all of D-I in field goal percentage at 74.2 percent.
