FORT MYERS, Fla. – Michael Duax continued his collection of postseason academic honors, as the Florida Gulf Coast men's basketball senior was named to the 24th annual Division I-AAA Athletic Directors Association Scholar-Athlete team.
Duax was previously named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team and the ASUN All-Academic team. He joins Isaiah Thompson (2023) and Marc-Eddy Norelia (2016) as the third FGCU men's basketball player to earn the selective award.
Duax has a perfect 4.0 GPA as a biology major, and plans to attend medical school following graduation. On the court, he averaged 7.7 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game on 55% shooting from the field. He scored in double-digit ten times in 2025-26 and was 11th in the ASUN in steals per game. Duax's best career game came against Oral Roberts, when he scored 22 points on 9-for-11 shooting from the field and grabbed five rebounds, leading FGCU to a 93-88 home win.Â
Along with Thompson and Norelia, Duax joins three-time Scholar-Athlete recipient Sarah Hansen (2012, 2013 and 2014), two-time recipients Courtney Chihil (2011 and 2012) and Stephanie Haas (2015 and 2016), and six other FGCU women's basketball players named to the Division I-AAA ADA Scholar-Athlete team.
"On behalf of the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association, I am proud to recognize and congratulate this year's men's and women's scholar-athlete teams, as well as those selected to receive postgraduate scholarship awards," said Division I-AAA ADA President and Director of Athletics at Seattle University, Shaney Fink. "These student-athletes exemplify excellence both in the classroom and in competition, demonstrating the dedication, discipline, and balance required to succeed at the highest level. We are honored to celebrate their achievements and support their continued success beyond their collegiate careers."
Â
Basketball players from all Division I-AAA ADA member institutions are eligible for these prestigious annual awards. Each of the nominees is required to maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.20 (4.00 scale) in undergraduate study and have been a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletics credentials. Nominees must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games listed on the nomination form. To be eligible for nomination to the Scholar-Athlete Team, individuals must have reached junior academic standing at their respective institution (ineligible athletics transfers are not eligible).Â
