FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University swimming and diving split its season-opening meets Friday against Bellarmine and Florida Atlantic. The Eagles dominated Bellarmine 187-50, but was edged by FAU 138-105 at the Lee County/FGCU Aquatics Center.

Dave Rollins said. "Obviously, would have liked a better overall result, but lots of positives to pull from today. Many new conference-best times and scores. Lots to work on as we progress through the season and I'm excited to see so many newcomers contributing in a big way."
The Eagles earned six gold medals Thursday, four in individual events and two in relays. The Eagles made a statement early by taking the 200 yard medley relay event at 1:44.63, courtesy of Macy Mullis, Jenna Gwinn, Libby Russum and Alexis Mishler.
FGCU finished 1-2-3 in the 1,000 yard freestyle as Lily Magda touched first at 10:46.17, Emmakate Zanoli placed second (10:51.98) and Sara Niepelova came in third (11:04.99) to complete the Eagles' sweep.
The Eagles then went 1-2 in the 100 yard butterfly. Russum captured the gold at 56.03, while Cameron Kuriger followed with a mark of 57.29.
Jasmin Kroll won two events Thursday, turning in the ASUN Conference's fastest times this season in the 100 and 200 yard free at 51.08 and 1:51.84.
Kroll's third gold of the day occurred as a member of the 200 yard freestyle relay. Kroll, Russum, Mishler and Mia Burke teamed for the first-place finish at 1:35.15.
Emma Bjornholdt, Marissa Santos, Gwinn and Mishler also made the podium in their respective events.
FGCU returns to the pool Saturday for another home meet against Bellarmine beginning at 11 a.m.
