FORT MYERS, Fla. – After a sweep of Palm Beach Atlantic, the No. 20 FGCU beach volleyball team ran its win streak to six straight as the Eagles improved to 16-5 on the year. FGCU won the first match of Wednesday's doubleheader at The ROC, 4-1, before taking the second match, 5-0.
"After a week on the road, I know all the girls were excited to play in front of friends, family, and fans. Conditions were perfect and it was a beautiful day for beach volleyball at FGCU," said head coach
Chris Sweat. "PBA made us work for the wins and it was great seeing some of the pairs really making strides in their partnerships as we head into the second half of the season."

In the first match,
Emma Hansen and
Kaitlyn Luebbers won the opening match of the day in the fifth flight before
Cortney VanLiew and
Snowy Burnam put FGCU up 2-0 after a win in the fourth flight.
Trinity Rosales and
Shelby Beisner secured the match-winning point in the third flight.

In the afternoon session, the Eagles again won in the first and second flights for the 2-0 lead. Rosales and Beisner won a three-set third flight to secure the match-winning point. The ASUN Pair of the Week won their eighth straight after going 6-0 last week with a pair of top-20 wins.

Rosales and Beisner improved to 13-3 on the year including 9-2 at the No. 3 flight. Hansen and Luebbers won their sixth straight to improve to a team-best 16-4 on the year including 10-2 at the No. 5 flight.

Burnam moved up to fifth all-time in program history recording her 56
th career win on the day. Hansen earned her 16
th win of the season to move up to seventh with 45 career wins.

The Eagles will have a week off between matches as they next host Tampa on Friday, April 1 with the opening serves set for Noon at The ROC. The day will be Senior Day as the Eagles honor their graduating class with a special pre-match ceremony.

Chris Sweat is in his third season as head coach of the FGCU beach volleyball program after spending the prior five seasons as an assistant coach. A member of VolleyballMag.com's Under 40 Coaching Hotshots list in January 2020, he led the Eagles to a 4-0 start in 2020 prior to the COVID-19 shutdown and has compiled a 37-20 record to open his head coaching tenure.

ABOUT FGCU
FGCU teams have combined to win an incredible 90 conference regular season and tournament titles in just 14+ seasons at the Division I level. Additionally, in just 10 seasons of D-I postseason eligibility, the Eagles have had a combined 44 teams or individuals compete in NCAA championships. Eight FGCU programs have earned a top-25 national ranking in their respective sport - including women's basketball (No. 20, 2021-22), beach volleyball (No. 20, 2022) and both men's soccer (2018, 2019) and women's soccer (2018) as three of the most recent. In 2016-17, the Green and Blue posted a department-best sixth-place finish in the DI-AAA Learfield Directors' Cup and top-100 showing nationally, ahead of several Power-5 and FBS institutions. In 2018-19, the Eagles had an ASUN and state of Florida best seven teams earn the NCAA's Public Recognition Award for their Academic Progress Rate in their sport. FGCU also collectively earned a record 3.50 GPA in the classroom in the fall 2020 semester and has outperformed the general University undergraduate population for 25 consecutive semesters. The past five semesters (Fall 2019 – Fall 2021) each saw another milestone reached as all 15 programs achieved a 3.0-or-higher team GPA in each. The Eagles also served an all-time high 7,200 volunteer hours in 2017 - being recognized as one of two runners-up for the inaugural NACDA Community Service Award presented by the Fiesta Bowl.
